Donetsk National Medical University

The Donetsk National Medical University is one of the largest and best medical university of Ukraine. It was founded in 1930 as the Satlino Medical Institute. At present, over 920 teachers work at the 77 departments of the Donetsk National Medical University Among them,150 professors and 243 Associate Professors, academic title of doctors and candidate of medical sciences are respectively 117 and 449 people. In the Donetsk National Medical University is a member of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and two corresponding members of AMS of Ukraine,4 laureates of State Prize of Ukraine,18 distinguished scientists and engineers,8 distinguished doctors,2 Honored worker of Education of Ukraine,37 full members of international and departmental academies science. Since 1973, the Donetsk National Medical University has been training medical personnel for countries of the Eastern Europe, China and Mongolia, and since 1976 it has been training students from other countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America. At present, there are about 2100 foreign students in the Donetsk National Medical University who study at the Preparatory Department, Medical Faculty, Dental Faculty, Nursing Faculty and in Pharmacy faculties, undergo postgraduate and clinical post-graduate (residency) courses as well as professional probation at departments of the University in dentistry, therapy, orthopaedics and traumatology, oncology, urology, psychiatry, ophthalmology, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, as well as other medical specialities. The Donetsk National Medical University has trained over 7,000 specialists for 92 states of Europe, Asia, Latin America, Middle East countries. Among them there are 63 Doctors of science and 70 Candidates of Medical Science, about 200 clinical post-graduates (residents). The Degree of the Donetsk National Medical University is prestigious and recognized in many countries of the world. Among former graduates of the University there are ministers and members of parliaments in various countries, outstanding scientists and famous specialists who founded their own clinics abroad. Within the period of their studies the students undergo academic training in main medical specialties. They take part in examinations of patients, giving urgent aid, work at X-ray rooms, clinical and biochemical laboratories. Particular attention is paid to clinical rounds of patients, their management, filling in and arrangement of case histories with their subsequent analysis. Clinical and theoretical training of the students is performed at 77 departments of the Donetsk National Medical University and the best clinics of Donetsk with use of modern medical diagnostic and therapeutical equipment, computed provision of the academic process, a wide use of audio and video aids. Donetsk National Medical University is a higher educational institution of the top accreditation level (conferred by the State Accreditation Committee of Ukraine). At the Donetsk National Medical University there are seven faculties including preparatory faculty for foreign students. The Donetsk National Medical University activities confirm with The Constitution of Ukraine, Ukrainian legislation, acts issued by the President and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, Decrees of the Health Department and Education Department of Ukraine, the University Rules.

Donetsk National Medical University prepares specialists in 172 medical specialities. Good facilities, high qualification level of the teaching staff, scientific and methodical provision led Donetsk National Medical University to one of the leading places in the country.

Donetsk National Medical University has very good facilities. There are six building for theoretical classes and a wide net of clinical bases of medical institutions of Donetsk, which are equipped at the level corresponding to world standards. Today Donetsk National Medical University is a complex of buildings designed for practical classes, lectures, laboratory studies, library, research work and auxiliary services, covering. The total area owned by the Donetsk National Medical University is 181454sq.m: within it the area of study and laboratory premises is 66089 sq. m. The teaching area per one student is 15 sq.m. Other clinical bases used by the Donetsk National Medical University are administered by the Government health care department.

Donetsk National Medical University started firstly the faculties of General Medicine and Dentistry in English medium of instruction in all over Ukraine and USSR.
